What’s Trending and Why You Want to Be in The Know

    By Taren Martin | Blog | Comments are Closed | 24 June, 2024 | 0

The restaurant industry is a competitive field that is continually evolving.  From new menu items to the technology that is being used to help operate and help run the business, there is always something new to learn. It is vital to adapt as new information and new trends surface so your business can also grow and flourish.  If your motto has been, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it, it might be time to take a closer look at how efficiently you are operating, how satisfied your customers are and see if there might be more you can offer when it comes to updating your menu and your overall business structure.

    What’s Trending?

This might seem like a tricky question, because trends can seem fleeting and might not stick around for a long time.  It is understandable to not want to change your menu all the time, however you can do your research to see which trends are the most well received by customers and pick a few that will match your restaurant’s brand.  It is not about doing ALL the trends, but it is important to appeal to the customers and what they are craving!

-Technology: We have talked about technology before, but it is trending and it is not going anywhere! Research what technology would best serve your business and start implementing as soon as possible.  There are so many ways to incorporate technology that will save your restaurant so much time and money, so don’t delay.

-Creative Dishes:  People are all about the experience these days, and not only with the decor and overall vibe, but also with the meal itself.  They want to experience new flavors from all over the world and having these options as well as plant based items, you are able to cater to a much wider audience.

-Virtual Kitchens: Virtual kitchens, also known as ghost kitchens, have become more popular on account of the shift in customer behavior.  Even some fast casual and full service restaurants have picked up on this trend by adding a small drive thru location for people wanting food on the go.  Virtual kitchens are more cost effective and are designed to operate with maximum efficiency.

    Why Follow Trends?

-Customer Satisfaction: If you want to give your customers an elevated experience, following trends is one way to do that.  This is true whether you are a quick service, fast casual or a full service restaurant, you just might tweak the way you execute the trend.

-Expand Customer Base: When you introduce new, trending items, you are likely to bring in new customers.  New customers can lead to more word of mouth business, new regulars and can boost your bottom line.  You do not need to cater to every single person, but it is good to allow room for diversity and to attract people with a different pallet.  When you make room for new menu items,  you are making room for new customers!

-Increased Profits:  Bringing in new customers with your trendy menu is one way you can boost your profits, but incorporating trending technology is another great way to save money while also making more money.  Reduce food waste, receive up-to-date reports anytime, meet your labor percent goal, and have accurate data that allows you to not over or under order and keep your business on track.

Not all trends are going to be for every restaurant, but when there is one that fits your brand, it is important to consider how it could benefit your business. There are some customers who want to order the same tried and true menu item every time, but there are also many adventurous people who are looking for something new!  As far as technology goes, most consumers today expect technology when they are at a restaurant.  Even if it is technology that the consumer doesn’t see, they can still feel the effects of a smooth operating business when technology is involved.  Don’t be afraid of change!  Boost staff and customer satisfaction and help your business be the best that it can be.
