    “Falling” For Technology

    By Taren Martin | Blog | Comments are Closed | 16 September, 2024 | 0

The weather begins to cool, the leaves begin to fall and with the new season brings a new opportunity to add value and better your business. When the end of the year is approaching, it might seem easy to delay implementing new technology into your restaurant.  People naturally start putting things off and making goals for the new year because it seems like there is too much going on and too much to get done these last few months.  However, Fall is an ideal time for restaurants to incorporate new technology into their operations. Here’s why making the shift now, rather than waiting until the New Year, could bring substantial benefits.

    1. Time to Train Employees

Compared to the end-of-year rush, fall can be a relatively quieter period for many restaurants. This makes it the perfect time to onboard new technology. Training staff, testing new systems, and making adjustments are much easier when your team isn’t overwhelmed.  For example, if you are implementing Inventory & Food Cost Software or Labor Scheduling Software, your staff can feel at ease navigating this new integral part of their job that will allow the restaurant to run more efficiently, save the restaurant money and also make their job easier.

    2. Preparation

The fall season serves as a prelude to one of the busiest times of the year: the holiday season. This period brings a surge in reservations, takeout orders, and catering requests. Restaurants that implement technology in the fall will have a significant advantage in managing this sales boost.  Take advantage of the slower Fall season so you can launch into holiday rush with more drive, purpose and ultimately end the year with higher profits.  The end of December through February usually slows down for restaurants, so use that time to assess how things are going and decide where more training is needed and how you can better utilize the technology for when business picks back up late spring and early summer.

    3. Address Labor Shortages and Efficiency Needs Now

The restaurant industry is still grappling with labor shortages, and many establishments are under pressure to do more with fewer staff members. Waiting until the new year to implement technology solutions like POS systems, kitchen display systems, or self-service kiosks means missing out on months of improved efficiency and labor optimization.

Fall is the perfect time to integrate solutions that will streamline workflows and automate repetitive tasks. Whether it’s simplifying front-of-house operations, enhancing kitchen efficiency with real-time order tracking, or alleviating operational tasks such as inventory, payroll and labor scheduling, technology can ease the burden on your workforce, improving both employee satisfaction and customer service.

    4. Take Advantage of Year-End Financial Opportunities

Many restaurants have budgets that reset at the end of the fiscal year, and fall presents an opportunity to invest in new technology while there’s still time in the current year’s budget. Moreover, implementing technology now allows businesses to start realizing a return on investment sooner, rather than delaying the benefits until next year.

While it may be tempting to hold off on significant changes until January, incorporating technology into your restaurant operations this fall can provide a competitive edge. From better preparation for the holiday rush to early adoption of solutions that address labor shortages and efficiency challenges, fall is the optimal time to embrace tech-driven improvements.

By acting now, restaurants can enter 2025 with well-established systems, a more productive staff, and a solid foundation for growth—being proactive rather than reactive. Don’t wait for the new year to modernize; start the transformation today.
